Online Marketing Article in USA Today Features SEO’s
Jun 14, 2006 Search and SEO
An article about Internet Marketing ran in USAToday today. It had a slant towards Search Engine Marketing and quoted several industry known names, namely Rand Fishkin, Greg Boser, Jennifer Laylock, and Matt Cutts. There were several examples of small businesses putting SEO to work, as well as examples of link building and basic business networking.
The article gave a fairly good “overall picture” of the industry for outsiders, IMO, without the negative arguments and focus on black hats (or black eyes) in the industry that have been featured in articles elsewhere in the past recent couple of years.
Also interesting is the lack of advertising from online marketing firms. Typically articles like this start building hype. There was an article on the following page about YouTube. A placement in between the two would have been perfect for any SME business trying to get some big fish or even small business clients. But the account execs instead sold the space to Insure.com. (Which I guess it wasn’t that bad, since a lot of SEOs are small firms or freelancers and are looking for self employed health plans, yours truly included.)
