Create Your Own Political Platform

Also titled as “Blogger For President! (No, not Howard Dean.)”

Sick of the Democrat vs. Republican same ol’, same ol’? Ever wish that our country wasn’t so, well, bipartisan? Ever wish there was a platform that you could REALLY influence?

Now is your chance! Travis Swicegood, friend and fellow citizen, has announced his quasi-serious bid as write-in candidate for President of the United States of America. His Vote Twice For Swice campaign is aimed at the Political Machine to point out the weaknesses of a bipartisan system. It’s an awareness campaign to promote the issues of most concern to the general populace of america, the centrist and swing-voters. It’s an effort to show the weakneses of a electronic voting system (i.e. no write-ins). It’s a political platform written not just for-the-people, but also by-the-people…literally. It’s the first-of-it’s-kind, geniune, Wiki Political Party.

So, is this a joke? In short, No. It is a political awareness campaign. Travis is not a valid candidate for President, but he is founder of this movement. With a full wiki-based platform, he has left the issues open submission and editing from contributors. Interested? Curious even? He has a few suggestions for how you yourself can contribute to the first ever Wiki-based political party. If nothing else, this has potential to be a very effective sounding board for centrists to voice-up their political views.

Daily we are reminded we have choices about most of the things in our lives but we refuse to pay attention to them. How sad it is that we have lost our way so completely, that we put everything in the hands of our elected officials. It would seem as though we have given up and just accept who ever rises to the top of the two party system that we are accustom to in our Country. We complain and grumble from time to time but we lack the substance our forefathers had.

I believe we need to regain our direction and purpose we were handed by heritage. We were born and raised to adults in the greatest country on the planet and yet what got us here is slipping through our hands like the sands in an hourglass.

Each one of us, are descendants from immigrants who came to this country to make a new life. They endured the odds; hostilities, nature and the perils of disease but in each case they not only survived they prospered. That greatness is buried deep within us and it must be released once more in order for us to survive.

We are consumed with the thought that someone else is responsible for us and constantly look to others for answers and try to find a likely person to blame for all transgressions we suffer. It seems like a spell has been cast over us and we walk in a fog of ignorants. It is time we regain our senses and deliver our-selves from our on transgressions. If you will allow me I would like to offer some food for thought on this subject. Addressing first the questions and then my humble answers.

Just like our forefathers we must seize the moment to act. We must realize nothing will change until we change it

    Hi David,

You should head over to Vote Twice for Swice. I’ve set up a wiki whose soul purpose is to outline a political platform that everyone gets to take part in. I’d love to have you thoughts on specific issues, and they could be completely documented there.

If I ran for President, this would be my platform. My main goal would be to stop outsourcing: To do this, tax credits would be given to people who create jobs that are involved in a small business or manufacturing.(Tax credits would be increased IF they also provide health care.)Free trade with countries that threatan the textile, car, steel, shoe, and paper industry would have a either a tariff if we are not activly exporting to them, or a ban on those products. Nextly, health care would be reformed. I would ask the Congress to lower insurence rates and import cheaper prescription drugs. Saving some families up to $1,000 or more. As to defense, it would be a stong one. Missile defense funding would be slashed and the funding would be given to body armor and benefits for the troops. Over four years ship and plane numbers would go up. The Bush tax cuts would be repealed, and once the ecconomy picks up, a 2-5% tax cut for the middle to poor class would be given over two years. With the money from the rich taxes, the budget would be balanced. As to education, NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND would end and it’s funding plus a little more would go to Math, Science, English, History, Art, Music, PE, and foreign languages. Tax credits would also be given to college goers. Foreign policy wise I would isolate the middle east until they are ready to stop funding terrorists and beating their women(and once we stoped doing that for that matter) and work to strengthen our Canadian, Japanese, and European ties. To encourage energy independance, I would get oil from Russia, Canada, Mexico and the USA! While we research better fuels. For the environment I would encourage a ban on stip coal mining and the regulation of pollution and the protection of the Alaskan wilderness. Social Security would be protected. Lastly, I would work to improve racial equality and labor rights as well as preserving our Constitutional liberties.
